Brief History on Acrylic or Plexiglass
Poly(methyl methacrylate) (PMMA), also known as acrylic or acrylic glass is a transparent thermoplastic often used in sheet form as a lightweight or shatter-resistant alternative to glass.
Although not a type of familiar silica-based glass, the substance, like many thermoplastics, is often technically classified as a type of glass hence it’s occasional historic designation as acrylic or Plexiglass
The material was developed in 1928 in several different laboratories by many chemists such as William Chalmers, Otto Röhm and Walter Bauer.
The first acrylic acid was created in 1843. Methacrylic acid, derived from acrylic acid, was formulated in 1865. The reaction between methacrylic acid and methanol results in the ester methyl methacrylate. In 1877 the German chemist Wilhelm Rudolph Fittig discovered the polymerization process that turns methyl methacrylate into polymethyl methacrylate.
Acrylic sheet was commercially produced in 1936 as safety glass. During World War II both Allied and Axis forces used acrylic glass for submarine periscopes and aircraft windshields, canopies, and gun turrets. Airplane pilots whose eyes were damaged by flying shards of PMMA fared much better than those injured by standard glass, demonstrating the much-increased compatibility between human tissue and PMMA as compared to glass.

Acrylic or Plexiglass is one of the most commonly used plastic materials. Common applications of this plastic include skylights, non-glass display cases and bullet proof windows. Compared to glass, Acrylic or Plexiglass is lighter and shatter-resistant, but more susceptible to scratching and transmission of UV. Acrylic has the unique ability to carry light around corners.

We offer “cut to size” service while you wait on all of Polycarbonate or Lexan products, though
Custom Shapes, Designs or fabricated parts will take a little longer, and will be based on our current shop schedule at that time, though it is our priority to always turn a round a project as quick as possible.
What if our Acrylic or Plexiglass is damaged or scratched at time of pick up?
It will not not be! We inspect and double check every Item we manufacture or cut to size in house prior to giving to our clients, we also encourage them to double check as well before leaving our facility to ensure the highest quality product is delivered. We will re-cut and or replace any item that does not guarantee their level of satisfaction.

We bubble wrap and carefully package every item, and also have trained soft gloved couriers who have been with us for years who have the Expertise & Knowledge to deliver all of our custom products without incident, sameday Locally and across the GTA.
